Tioga Corrections Officers Host Community Party
Hundreds of Tioga County adults and children are expected to attend an annual Christmas party organized by corrections officers and a community agency.
This will be the 13th year for the event, which is scheduled for Friday at the Countryside Community Center in Owego.
Tioga County Sheriff Gary Howard said the idea for the party came from corrections officers who wanted to give back to the community.
Howard said dinner will be served to everyone who attends. Children twelve and under will be able to receive a gift from Santa.
The sheriff said he expects 300 to 350 meals will be served at this week's party. He said about 125 children received toys last year.
Members of the Tioga Sheriff's Corrections Division work with Tioga Opportunities to organize the event.
Friday's party is scheduled to run from 4 to 7 p.m. at the community center on Sheldon Guile Boulevard.
