Officials with the Broome County Health Department say the ticks are really bad this year.

Speaking on the June 10 edition of the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, Communicable Disease Nurse Educator Maryanne Yourdon and Public Health Sanitarian, Joshua Phelps explain why ticks are bigger than normal problem this year as well as the effects of Lyme Disease.

Phelps says an unusually wet spring as well as lots of insulating snow over the winter have contributed to large population of the biting insects this year.

Yourdon points out that not everyone will exhibit the "bulls eye rash" if they are infected with Lyme Disease and people that find a tick attached should be checked out by your doctor.

Lyme Disease can cause life-long problems if not quickly placed in check.
