Broome County Sheriff’s officials say there could be traffic tickets pending in connection with the collision of a tractor trailer loaded with thousands of pounds of crushed stone and a slow-moving pickup truck loaded with asbestos roofing shingles September 21 at 4:25 p.m.

The tractor trailer reportedly rear-ended the pickup, sending it off the highway, where it rolled over.

Two people in the pickup sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not hurt.

The crash happened on Interstate 81 in the Town of Lisle about a mile south of the Cortland County line. The driving lane of the Interstate was closed into the morning hours on Friday.

Witnesses told deputies that the pickup truck was hindering the normal flow of traffic by traveling significantly below the posted speed limit in the driving lane.

The driver of the tractor trailer, fully loaded with limestone, said he tried to slow down but hit the pickup from the rear.

The tractor trailer eventually left the road, sliding down an embankment and hitting a stand of pine trees where it rolled onto the passenger side.
