eCollege finder has taken the time to list the colleges in each state with the most applicants, they have also listed the top five colleges in the country, and it’s no surprise New York University is in that category.

The data comes from the National Center for Education Statistics and eCollegefinders Mike Simmons, who put the map together.

Each state's winner was compiled by taking a look at each college's total admission applications, so it would make sense that an institution in America's largest city would have the most applications. So does that really make it the best?

We have two very good ones right here in Binghamton: Binghamton University and SUNY Broome. We may not be in the busiest area, but SUNY Broome provides solid "bang for your buck" and B.U. is consistently ranked as one of the top public universities in the northeast.

Also, New York State is home to Cornell and Columbia which are both Ivy League schools. I would say those are pretty sought-after admissions if you ask me.

If you’re looking to travel out west there are several great places to go, and if you’re adventurous why not apply to Alaska’s top institution in Anchorage. (brrrrrrrr)

The list not only includes some of the most prestigious colleges in the country, but also private and select universities as well.

If you want the top of the list you’ll have to travel about 3000 miles to attend classes, with over 72 thousand Applicants this west coast institution is the most sought after in the United States.
