Hot and humid weather has arrived just in time for July.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory through Monday night.  Heat Index Values will make it feel like 105 degrees on Sunday and Monday.  It could feel hotter in urbanized valley locations.

Daytime temperatures will remain above 90 throughout most of the week ahead.  Forecasters say there will be little relief as temperatures will be in the 70s only briefly in overnight hours.

People are advised to drink plenty of water, avoid the direct sun, stay in air-conditioned rooms, plus look in of neighbors and relatives.   Those who work or spend time outside should schedule strenuous activities in early morning or evening.

OSHA officials recommend that if you work outside there should also be frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.  Anyone overcome by the heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.  In that case, 9-1-1 should also be called.

Broome County officials say cooling stations are open in county parks,  most municipal libraries, senior centers and at most public pools. (Please see the list below.)

The Floral Avenue Park pool in Johnson City, however, is closed until further notice due to mechanical issues.  Village officials hope to re-open that pool soon.  They ask that residents visit the Spray park at CFJ Park as an alternative.
