Teen in U.S. Illegally Leads Walton Police on Chase Through River
Walton Police say they had to chase a suspect into the cold waters of the Delaware River in what had started out as a stop for speeding April 8.
Police say they pulled 27 year old Noel Rubio-Cruz over on Stockton Avenue, found he was driving on a suspended registration and his two passengers were in the country illegally.
One of those passengers, 18 year old Alfredo Maldonado-Garcia ran from police and crossed the river twice before being apprehended.
47 year old Adrian Peralta-Reyes, who was also riding in Rubio-Cruz’s vehicle, was wanted on an immigration warrant dating back close to 18 years.
Rubio-Cruz is charged with speeding and driving on a suspended registration. He was sent to the Delaware County Jail on $2,000 bail.
Peralta-Reyez was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Maldonado-Garcia is charged with obstructing governmental administration. After being treated for symptoms of hypothermia from his dip in the Delaware, the teen was sent to the county jail on $4,000 bail.
