Teachers in Binghamton are lending their voices in opposition to the Republican tax reform legislation pending in the U.S. Senate.

The teachers said, in a demonstration November 29, that the measure hurts middle class Americans and would take away a $250 tax deduction from educators who pay out of their own pockets for supplies for their students and classrooms that the districts don’t cover. The teachers say many spend thousands of their own dollars to pay for supplies.

Demonstrations were also held in other municipalities around New York State where educators say the reform proposal will largely benefit the rich and big companies.
