A taxi van crash in the Town of Cortlandville has left two people dead and seven others injured.  The crash was reported at 2:50 AM this (Thursday) morning.  In information released from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office a taxi van occupied by nine people was traveling west on Bennie Road when it left the roadway and hit a utility pole and tree.  The driver and one passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.  Their identities have not been made public.

The other seven passengers were taken to local hospitals.  One passenger was airlifted by helicopter to SUNY Upstate.  Two others were transported there by ambulance.  The four remaining passengers were taken to Cortland Regional Medical Center.  The condition of those hospitalized has not been released.  The Cortland County Sheriff's Office is continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident.
