The Deposit man convicted in February of shooting and wounding a New York State Trooper will remain in jail while he appeals.

The trial is underway for a Broome County man charged with attempted first degree murder in the shooting of a New York State Trooper.

The New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association says it is "outraged" a man indicted on charges he tried to kill a trooper has been set free on bail.

Scott Mawhiney pleaded not guilty to a nine-count indictment in Broome County Court in connection with the shooting of Trooper Ryan Thorp in Deposit in June.
