The National Weather Service warns residents in part of the Southern Tier and Central New York to take steps to prevent illness due to high heat and humidity.

Add Chenango and Cortland Counties to the National Weather Service's Heat Advisory region for June 29.

Much of the New York and Pennsylvania are bracing for some unsettled weather later this week, some of it courtesy of Tropical Depression Barry.

Dangerous Heat Index values in the region can reach 100 degrees, raising the possibility of serious heat-related illness.
