Pools at two town of Union parks should be in good shape if the coronavirus pandemic conditions ease enough to permit swimming this summer.

Workers with 21st Century Pools and Spas have been installing new PVC membranes at a pair of swimming pools at Highland Park in Endwell in recent weeks. The liner in a pool at West Endicott Park also is to be replaced in the near future.

The town board approved spending about $195,000 for the pool projects.

Town supervisor Rick Materese said the work had been scheduled last year. He said some concrete repairs also are planned at Highland Park.

Materese said the town and other Broome County communities continue to await state guidelines for a possible opening of public pools. He expects area municipalities will try to coordinate decisions regarding the operation of swimming pools and summer programs.
