Authorities say 40-year-old Lugene Greer Jr. of Cordova, Tennessee, was taken into custody shortly after the incident at the Quality Inn at 4105 Vestal Parkway East.
Police were called to the hotel just north of the university campus around 11:30 p.m. Thursday after a man reportedly fired a gun.
Investigators say Greer is accused of discharging the weapon during an argument. Police did not provide details about the nature of the dispute.
The gun used in the incident was recovered at the hotel.
Greer was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Greer was arraigned in Vestal town court and sent to Broome County Jail.
