Hundreds of people traveling through the Southern Tier have been taking a break at a restaurant north of Binghamton to recharge their Tesla electric cars.

The eight-unit high-speed charging station in a corner of The Spot restaurant's parking lot on Upper Front Street went into service in the fall of 2015.

Spyros Dimatos, an owner of The Spot, said the use of the Tesla Supercharger has continued to grow since its installation outside the business.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Dimatos said there have been a few times when he has noticed all eight of the charging spaces have been in use. He said the units seem to be busiest on Sundays as people are heading home from weekend trips.

This past Sunday afternoon, the Supercharger at the restaurant was proving to be a popular spot, as a range of Tesla models pulled into the station.

Tesla owners said they liked the convenience of charging their vehicles while they took a break from driving to get something to eat and drink.

Check out a few of the Tesla vehicles that were being charged during a recent visit to the Supercharger in the town of Chenango.
