The AIDS Ride for Life is in its 21st year bicycling around Cayuga Lake in Ithaca with courses that range from 14 to 102 miles or even no miles with a stationary bike option all to raise money for education and services provided by STAP in the eight counties it now serves.

The ride takes place September 7 and includes lots of fun, food and even a chance for contributors on all levels to win a trip.

Rotella also talks about the history of STAP, which began in the 1980s with the frightening emergence of the AIDS epidemic, and its growth into a large non-profit organization that includes a number of risk-reduction components like education, safe syringe exchange and infection interception.

STAP's special events spokesperson also talks about some other upcoming events like the wildly entertaining Miss Richfield 1981 show Gender Fluids at Ti-Ahwaga Theater in September and Hair Wars fantasy hair style competition that has gained national attention.

You can find out more about upcoming STAP events and programs at www.stapinc.org or by calling (607) 798-1706.

Southern Tier Close Up is heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
