St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church has reached quite a milestone. The Church has held its Pirohi sale for the past 50 years.  This year's sale in conjunction with Lenten lunches at St. Michael's Recreation Center, 296 Clinton Street in Binghamton wrapped up this afternoon.

For the past seven weeks church members and volunteers from other area churches have served several thousand lunches to people who turned out to enjoy delicious home-made cabbage and potato pirohi, soup and desserts.

Organizers say as many as 25,000 pirohi were "pinched" by volunteers to serve to hungry diners.  Oh...and that's not 25,000 total....that's 25,0000 PER WEEK !  Over seven weeks that is 175,000 Pirohi !

For many visitors the Friday lunches during the Lenten season have been a tradition for decades.  Many come each Friday.  Others come several times over the seven weeks and still others who come home for the Easter weekend plan to get back to the area by lunch time Friday to enjoy time with family and friends at St. Michael's. Many of those dining at the Recreation Center also ordered "Pirohi To Go" to bring home for family  to enjoy tonight or tomorrow.

Dozens of volunteers were blessed with a prayer from St. Michael's leader Father James Dutko as today's meal came to a close. . Father then joined in serving those volunteers a lunch in appreciation of their hard work and service to the Church.
