Law enforcement agencies in the region are getting a jump on the Labor Day weekend by adding patrols now to look for drunk and dangerous drivers well ahead of the holiday.

The Cortland County Sheriff's Office is among the agencies participating in the statewide STOP-DWI Labor Day Crackdown Enforcement Effort through September 7.

The STOP DWI Labor Day Weekend Crackdown is one of several statewide enforcement initiatives conducted throughout the year during heavy travel dates and holidays to watch for drunk drivers as well as violators of state laws regarding seat belt use and driving while using mobile devices like cell phones. 

The efforts include increased patrols as well as sobriety checkpoints.
