Some New York Property Owners Won’t be Getting STAR Rebate Checks Anymore
The newly adopted New York State budget includes some changes to a popular property tax rebate program which may mean some homeowners won't get a check anymore.
Homeowners eligible for the STAR program started getting their rebates sent to them by check in 2016.
The Associated Press reports under the newly approved state budget, starting in the Fall, property owners with incomes of between $259,000 and $500,000 will still get STAR rebates sent in a check. But property owners earning under $250,000 who bought their homes before the middle of 2015 will have their STAR rebates included in their tax bill.
AP say the STAR property tax relief program reports paying out more than $3 billion a year.
