Slow Return to “Normal” For Broome Clerk’s Office on Southern Tier Close Up

Broome County Clerk Joseph Mihalko is the guest on the weekly, local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up as things slowly get back up to speed in the various divisions of the Clerk's Office, including the local offices of the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Mihalko says the office has been very busy during the COVID-19 shutdown even with a skeleton crew actually in the offices and others remotely working,

Department of Motor Vehicle staff had even taken on more work processing business for New York State with a large amount of items funneled up from downstate areas that were at the epicenter of the pandemic.

Recently the Endicott and Binghamton DMV offices opened for face-to-face transactions including issuing driver permits, renewals and enhanced ID with more services slowly coming back on line.

Mihalko says after the big rush the first day or two of opening, the stream of DMV customers evened out in spite of only ten people being allowed in the offices at any given time.  The staff was still able to complete all transactions by the end of the workday even from the state of reopening.

Title searches and other business of the Clerk's Office have resumed, mainly by appointment. Many documents including mortgages, judgments, civil and criminal actions can be found online at www.gobcclerk.com, even land records dating back to 1946 and court documents dating back to 1986.
