Initial reports indicated the gunshots may have originated in the area of Exchange and Susquehanna streets.

Police patrol vehicles shut down Lisle Avenue between Exchange and Carroll streets, just south of the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator building.

Video from an apartment house surveillance camera showed a man running north toward Exchange Street just after the gunshots were heard.

People in the area said they saw the man heading toward the Security Mutual Building. He may have continued to run north on Chenango Street.

A detective and a patrol officer were observed examining an area behind the Sentry Alarms building at 40 Chenango Street for possible evidence in connection with the investigation.

Friday afternoon's report of gunshots occurred two weeks after a 20-year-old man was killed when he was shot in the face near Mirabito Stadium. No arrests have been made in connection with that fatal shooting.

The Binghamton police detective division may be contacted by calling (607) 772-7080.
