Some area students aren’t going to let soggy fields and hundreds of pounds of rotten potatoes  stand in the way of helping their community.

The Seton Catholic Central School Community usually helps the Southern Tier Antique Tractor Club harvest fields of potatoes in the fall to be donated to local hunger programs like the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse or CHOW.

Heavy rain flooded the donated fields in the West Corners area last month, just days before volunteers were due to gather the spuds to send out to the needy.

This week, students collected bags of potatoes and money to help offset the harvest for CHOW.

Every student who brought in a donation was given a dress down pass as a reward.
