Rogers Plans to Build New Storage Facilities in Binghamton

A Binghamton storage and logistics company is moving forward to expand its facilities in the city's First Ward.

Rogers Service Group has been developing plans to add warehousing space to the east of its existing operations on Clinton Street.

The company is seeking permission to demolish a building it acquired from Broome County in 2017. The structure at 181 Clinton Street previously housed a DMV office.

Vice president Ron Rogers told members of the Commission on Architecture and Urban Design Tuesday that the company has "outgrown the space" it currently uses to store records at its 245 Clinton Street facility.

Rogers said the company wants to construct a 30,000-square-foot record storage building on the site of the old DMV office. He said it would have the capacity to hold 400,000 boxes of records.

Rogers also said the company was planning to build two standalone warehouse buildings on adjacent property it owns. He indicated the expansion could take place in the "next year or two."

The commission delayed taking action on the request by Rogers Service Group to demolish the former DMV building. Before it was used as a DMV office, the structure housed a bank branch.

Company president Michelle Zemanick could not be reached Thursday to comment on the expansion initiative.
