Rob Astorino Brings His Campaign for Governor to Binghamton

Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino says he's ready to challenge Governor Andrew Cuomo again.

Astorino is seeking the Republican gubernatorial nomination for next year's election. He unsuccessfully ran against Cuomo, a Democrat, in 2014.

Speaking in front of Binghamton City Hall on Thursday, Astorino recalled his previous campaign when he frequently described Cuomo as being "corrupt."

Astorino noted the governor now is facing several investigations on an array of issues, including the Covid-19 deaths of New York nursing home residents.

Astorino said "the state is being run into the ground" as the result of Cuomo's policies. He said in the past year, New York has "led the nation in Covid deaths and job loss."

Several Republicans have expressed an interest in running for governor next year. Despite ongoing investigations, most political observers believe Cuomo is planning to seek a fourth term.
