The first Binghamton University students are expected to start moving into a new off-campus community in just over two months.

The move-in day for the 161-unit cottage-style complex less than two miles south of the Vestal campus will be August 14.

Construction crews are busy putting the finishing touches on many of the buildings which will house about 700 beds.

The project is being developed by Landmark Properties of Georgia. Landmark acquired the 44 acres of land for Retreat at Bunn Hill from the Kradjian family for $6.8 million in 2024.

Some Vestal residents had fought student housing for the site for nearly two decades. An earlier development proposed by a North Carolina company was scrapped in the face of local opposition.

A costly legal battle trying to block the Landmark Properties project was unsuccessful.

Since construction began, people who live near the site have complained about noise and other issues, including dust from the site and potential creek contamination.
