The business on North Nanticoke Avenue in the Union District of the village opened for the season Wednesday morning - 247 days after it closed last autumn.

Opening day traditionally is August 16 but doughnut and cider lovers quickly spread the word that the Cider Mill was up and running a bit earlier than usual.

Some doughnut fans cope with the off-season by stocking up just before the December 1 closing. They say properly-wrapped doughnuts freeze well.

The Cider Mill opened in 1926. It was acquired by the Ciotoli family in 1942. In addition to doughnuts and cider, it offers apples, candy apples and pies.
