Broome County officials are saying “thanks” to the men and women on the first line of public safety in the community.

In recognition of National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, County Executive Debra Preston, Legislator Scott Baker and the Director of Emergency Services, Jerry Marinich made a stop to the county’s central emergency dispatch center.

Last year Broome County Emergency Dispatchers answered a half million calls and sent fire, police and medical personnel out to over 200,000 incidents.

There are 44 full time and 13 part time dispatchers handling calls throughout the county.

The Central Call Center is the hub for 911 responses after the county, several years ago, moved dispatching duties away from municipalities and to the location at the Pubic Safety Building in the Town of Dickinson.

County officials said they wanted to take the opportunity to call attention to the unseen work of the local emergency dispatchers.
