Project Lifesaver Used to Locate Missing Person with Autism

Cortland County Sheriff’s officials say a person enrolled in a program to provide first-responders with equipment to find special-needs individuals is safe and was found within minutes of wandering off.

Authorities say Deputies were called to a home in the Town of Hartford at 9:55 p.m. August 3 with a report of a missing person.  A person with autism had wandered away from home and could not be located.

Officials say the person is enrolled in the Project Lifesaver Program and officers were able to find them within five minutes of starting the search using the program equipment.

According to the sheriff’s office, Project Lifesaver is a non-profit organization that provides first-responders with equipment to quickly locate individuals who are prone to wandering.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s office has transmitters available for adults or children who may need location equipment.
