Prep Work Starts At Vestal Nursing Home Site

Construction appears about to get underway on a nursing home project in the town of Vestal.

The facility would replace the Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Vestal Road. That building was closed after it sustained heavy flood damage in September 2011.

The new nursing home is to be built on Sheedy Road, just west of Route 26.

Heavy equipment now is parked at the site. Fencing has been installed in preparation for work on the project.

A nearby resident was told by a worker at the 19-acre site that construction could begin as soon as next week.

Some people who live in neighboring homes have expressed concern that the project could increase the risk of flooding in the area. They also say they're worried about the additional traffic that would be generated after the nursing home opens.
