A Vestal man was arrested after police executed a search warrant as stunned neighbors looked on.

Authorities say 32-year-old Marcel Jones of 312 Third Avenue was taken into custody late Wednesday afternoon.

Officers with the Vestal Police Department were assisted by state police and the Binghamton Metro SWAT Team in the raid, which occurred around 5:30 p.m.

Investigators say Jones was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance for allegedly possessing six grams of heroin.

Police also seized electronics items linked to area burglary cases.

Jones was arraigned in Vestal town court and sent to Broome County Jail without bail.

The late-afternoon drug raid shocked residents of the quiet residential street. Families were enjoying the warm spring day with many people grilling and gardening as police swarmed their neighborhood.
