Motorists on Route 17 in western Broome County have been encountering extended delays due to repaving.

Crews spent the past few weeks preparing the three-mile stretch of the Southern Tier Expressway in Vestal for the resurfacing project.

The Route 17 work zone runs from the Tioga County line to just west of the Route 26 exit.

One westbound lane has been repaved and workers Friday started resurfacing the eastbound passing lane.

The project is expected to continue over the next several days.
