Pa. Representative Remembered for Championing PennDOT Workers

Signs on highways in Northeast Pennsylvania are honoring a champion of road crews following his sudden death earlier this month.

State Representative Sid Kavulich was working on the state’s “Steer Clear” law just before dying of complications from heart surgery last Tuesday.

PennDOT officials say one of his final visits before his death was to District 4 and the office in Dunmore to see what he could do to promote the legislation similar to New York’s Move Over Law protecting road crews and first responders along roadways.

In honor of the Lackawanna County Democrat, PennDOT is running Steer Clear messages on all its message boards across the region through October 26.

In addition to serving in the Pennsylvania legislature for the past eight years, Kavulich was a well-known sportscaster for WBRE TV 28 and WYOU in the 1980s and 1990s. Kavulich was 62.
