Pa. Embraces Un-Masked Recommendations, NY Not So Fast

Pennsylvania is embracing the new, relaxed federal guidance on mask-wearing for people who are vaccinated but New York is taking a wait-and-see stance.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revised its guidance on mask-wearing, saying that fully vaccinated people don’t have to wear them in uncrowded situations indoors or outside at all, even at a crowded event. Pennsylvania's masking requirement is still in place for unvaccinated people.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a statement following the CDC announcement on mask-wearing and social distancing saying the recommendation is under review.

The Democrat says: “In New York, we have always relied on the facts and the science to guide us throughout the worst of the pandemic and in our successful reopening.”  The Governor says the newly released guidance for those vaccinated against COVID-19 is being reviewed “in consultation with (New York Health Commissioner) Dr. Zucker and our partners and health experts in surrounding states.”

Children under the age of 12 still cannot be vaccinated and should still wear masks, especially in indoor settings.

Under the CDC guidelines, unvaccinated children should still wear face masks.
