New York State’s Veterans Hall of Fame has a new member.

Specialist Charles Bilbrey Junior of Owego was recently inducted into the hall that honors veterans who have distinguished themselves in military and community service.

Bilbrey was killed ten years ago in Iraq. He had survived two vehicle bombings during the first three months of deployment in January of 2007.

New York Senator Fred Akshar says Bilbrey carried candies on patrol to give to Iraqi children.

A college scholarship program at Owego Free Academy is in place in Bilbrey’s name.
