After a delay of a few months, workers are busy building a new Tractor Supply Company store in Tioga County.

The national retailer received local approvals to construct the 22,000-square-foot facility at 858 Route 434 in the town of Owego nearly a year ago.

The start of construction was held up by various factors, including connecting the site with the Veolia water supply that serves the village of Owego.

The store will be located about one-quarter mile east of the village line. The eight-acre site is between Vestis Uniforms and a self-storage facility.

Tractor Supply Company representatives have previously indicated construction of the new store would take "ten months at most" to complete.

Owego town supervisor Donald Castellucci said he was not certain of the current target date to open the store.

There now are about 2,300 Tractor Supply stores across the United States, including 98 in New York state.

The company's first store in the Binghamton area was opened in Vestal in 2002. A second Broome County store opened in the town of Chenango in 2018.
