Owego Man Charged In Village Slashing

A 19-year-old man has been charged with assault in connection with a slashing incident in the village of Owego.

Authorities say Dakota Steigler of Owego was arrested shortly after a man was attacked on North Avenue around 8:40 Wednesday night.

Investigators say Steigler apparently had been involved in a crash while riding a bicycle.

According to the Tioga County Sheriff's Office, Steigler became upset when a group of people walking nearby laughed at him.

Police say Steigler began to fight and pulled a knife. A Tioga County man sustained defensive wounds to both of his hands. He was treated by medics at the scene.

Steigler was charged with felony assault and misdemeanor menacing. He was arraigned in Owego village court and ordered held in Tioga County Jail on $10,000 bail.
