OSHA Clears Weitsman-Upstate Shredding in September Death
The owners of a Tioga County materials recovery facility, that had been the scene of a fatal accident last September, say they will continue to review their safety protocols while the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cleared the company of any issues concerning the death.
Upstate Shredding in Owego will not be issued any citations in connection with the accident that claimed the life of 48 year old David Kotwas. The Oswego driver was killed when another trailer tipped over on top of the tractor he had been operating.
Kotwas was a driver for Riccelli Enterprises in Syracuse when he was killed in the cab of his truck September 27th at the yards of the scrap metal processing facility as the second truck, which was tipped up in the air while dumping its load, rolled over.
Upstate Shredding-Weitsman Recycling officials say safety procedures have been reviewed and it plans to continue to improve hazard recognition and safety at company facilities.
