One person is dead following a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a dump truck on New York State Route 17 east in Apalachin November 24.

New York State Police say 69 year old Peter Lau was driving the Toyota Camry that collided with the State Department of Transportation truck that was moving slowly on the shoulder of the highway with its lights flashing.

69 year old Shude Zeng, who was a passenger in the car, died at Wilson Hospital.

Lau, the driver of the DOT truck and two other occupants of the dump truck are said to have suffered minor injuries.

Traffic was diverted onto Route 434 following the crash on the highway and motorists reported several other vehicles ended up colliding on the detour.

Authorities say Lau has been issued numerous tickets but the investigation is continuing.
