Work has started on extensive renovations to convert the building on Watson Boulevard into a banquet facility.

The Brothers 2 restaurant closed in February after operating at the site for almost 47 years.

The property was acquired by the owners of the Broadway Diner, which is located a short distance to the east on Watson Boulevard.

The building soon will be home to the Riverdale Banquet Hall. General manager Steve Anastos said he expects the new facility will open at the end of May.

Anastos said renovations are planned for the inside and outside of the building. He said he and his family are "very excited" about the new banquet operation.

Anastos said wedding receptions and dances already have been booked for the venue.

Crews started working at the former restaurant on Tuesday. They are busy removing old furniture and fixtures in preparation for the planned building makeover.
