Oakdale Commons Expansion: Housing Complex and Child Care Center
A 125-unit apartment building and a 200-space child care facility are to be built as part of the ongoing redevelopment of the former Oakdale Mall in Johnson City.
The housing complex would be located at the north end of what has become the Oakdale Commons property, just west of Reynolds Road.
Governor Kathy Hochul on Monday publicly released plans for the next phases of the redevelopment of the old mall site.
The plans also call for the construction of an 85,000-square-foot orthopedic and spine treatment center to be operated by Guthrie.
New York state may provide up to $18 million in funding for the newly-announced projects at Oakdale Commons.
Construction of the additional projects is scheduled to be completed in early 2026.
A rendering of the apartment complex shows a four-story structure that is to be built in an area that once had been used for overflow parking at the Oakdale Mall. It's now used as a staging area for construction materials and equipment.
The 22,000-square-foot child care facility would be designed to serve up to 208 children. There would be infant, toddler, preschool, pre-K and school-age slots. The center would be administered by Broome County and operated by a private contractor.
