NY Governor Announces New Central Cyber Security Center
There is to be a new central location downstate to coordinate efforts to beef up internet security across New York State.
Governor Kathy Hochul is continuing to announce steps to improve the state's cybersecurity defenses, days after it was announced over the weekend concerns over global threats to infrastructure and other systems given the situation in Ukraine.
February 22, Hochul announced the establishment of a new joint cybersecurity operations center that will open in the coming months in Brooklyn.
She says the centralized operation will unify threat assessments and responses between government agencies, critical businesses and utilities.
The Brooklyn-based hub will eventually hire a staff of 70, both in-person and virtual.
The Democrat has included spending $62-million for cybersecurity improvements at the state level and $30 million dollars in funding to help local governments afford upgrades in the proposed 2022-23 budget.
