Binghamton Police: Still No Suspect in Aliza Spencer Killing

Investigators have yet to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting of 12-year-old Aliza Spencer, who was shot in the chest while walking near her Binghamton home.

Spencer died shortly after she was wounded around 10 p.m. April 21 on Bigelow Street near Chamberlain Street.

City police have said the sixth grade East Middle School student had been walking with her father and brother when she was wounded. The other family members were not injured.

Police have released no information about the killing or the status of the investigation since a news conference was held the day after Aliza died.

Police chief Joseph Zikuski on Tuesday afternoon spoke briefly about the case with WNBF News. He said detectives have not developed a suspect in the case.

Zikuski said the investigation is continuing. He said there was "nothing new to bring forward. We're just plugging away as we have been since it happened."

The reward for information leading to an arrest in the investigation has grown to $25,000. Zikuski was asked whether many tips had been received as a result of the reward being posted. He said: "We have not."
