Earlier this month, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the pilot program for Class D (passenger vehicle) and Class M (motorcycle) learner permit process to be started remotely was being expanded statewide.

The remote test is still only the first step and passing does not allow a person to drive.  The budding motorist must still come to a DMV office to get their permit but the visit will be quicker and more convenient for the customer and allow more people to be served by the DMV.

The new online application also provides a checklist of all the documents people need to upload and bring with them to the Department of Motor Vehicles.  The DMV representative will review the documents ahead of the appointment and advise the customer if any corrections are needed before they actually show up.
