New York Workers’ Comp. Office Hosts COVID Seminars
New Yorkers who are suffering long-term effects from getting COVID-19 through possible exposure at work are getting some help from the state in navigating the long-haul symptoms.
The Workers’ Compensation Board is providing information on the rights of workers who were exposed to the coronavirus at work and became sick. Webinars are being offered at noon February 23, March 9 and April 13. Information can be found at http://www.wcb.ny.gov/covid-19/. The sessions are free and participants do not have to register in advance.
Officials say while the webinars are targeted toward workers who have lost time on the job or have ongoing medical problems, the information is relevant to anyone who thinks they may have gotten COVID through at-work exposure.
For business owners in Broome County, local economic development officials have a new program to help businesses impacted by the pandemic.
The Agency and Broome County have announced the Broome COVID Recovery Fund is providing additional help to small businesses that have 25 or fewer employees with a one-time grant of up to $50,000.
The grant can be used for working capital, marketing, payroll, personal protective equipment, rent or mortgage payments, utility payments, training and even furniture, fixtures, machinery and equipment.
The entire program guidelines and operating criteria can be found on the Agency’s website (www.theagency-ny.com) Questions can also be emailed to Brendan O’Bryan at bjo@theagency-ny.com.
