New York Summer Day Camps and Some Outdoor Activities Cleared to Open
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is allowing low-risk outdoor recreational activities and businesses providing those activities to reopen in the region.
The Governor also specifically announced summer day-camp programs would be allowed to open but the state is still evaluating the status of sleep-over camps.
Day camps can start operating June 29, which can help families returning to work at reopening businesses to provide supervision for their children.
Tioga County Legislative Chairwoman Martha Sauerbrey notes the Executive Order allowing some activities that met the public health and safety metrics in Phase 1 of reopening is extended to allow any operator of an auto racetrack to begin operating onsite today. The measure, however only allows essential personnel or participants on site and does not allow any visitor or spectator on the the premises.
Obviously not an auto racetrack, but Tioga Downs in Nichols opened harness racing this week, also without spectators.
