New York Health Department Develops Self-Administered COVID-19 Test
There is a positive note in the fight against the coronavirus.
Governor Andrew Cuomo says this week, new testing developed by New York State’s Wadsworth Lab will be available that is a self-administered short nasal swab and saliva sample, sparing health care workers from possible more dangerous exposure.
The tests can be done in the presence of health professionals but is less invasive and uncomfortable for the patient, making Personal Protective Equipment less necessary.
The development will allow the state to continue to test as many individuals as possible in the light of the national shortage of the more invasive tests that take days to come back.
President Donald Trump also announced progress in testing saying a new process can get results back in as little as five minutes.
New York is doing more testing than any other state in the nation.
