New York Goes Along With Reduced Distance Between Students
New York State is going along with the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and will allow students in public schools to sit closer together.
Friday, April 9, officials said in a 24-page statement and guidance that the distance separating students in New York would be cut in half from six to three feet, which is still believed to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.
The move makes it easier for school districts to utilize the space they have to accommodate more students for in-class learning.
Students still have to wear masks, frequently wash hands and maintain at three feet distance in class or more in other settings around school to try to control the spread of COVID-19
Since the early days of reopening following the start of the pandemic over a year ago, spread of the coronavirus has been more prevalent in community and congregate settings with far fewer cases linked back to classroom settings.
President Joe Biden has said he wants to have all Kindergarten to eighth grade students back in the classroom by the end of April.
