Volunteer fire stations all over New York State, including dozens in the Southern Tier and Central New York, are gearing up for another recruitment drive.

Fire stations will be open to visitors April 23, with the hopes of signing up volunteers in a number of capacities.

The Firefighters Association of the State of New York says over 500 fire departments will be taking part in RecrecuitNY for the weekend, conducting tours and allowing visitors to try on turnout gear and participate in other activities.

The Afton Fire Department, like many, is really in need of volunteers and hopes to talk to neighbors during their event from 9 a.m. to noon April 23.
