Multiple Injuries Reported in Chenango Forks Head-On Crash

Broome County Sheriff's officials say a driver suffered serious injuries and several others were hurt in a head-on crash at 8:50 p.m. May 28 on Route 79 in Chenango Forks.

Authorities say Charles Furman of Binghamton was driving east when his car crossed into the westbound lane and hit a full size GMC pickup truck driven by 20 year old Cory Carinci of Taberg, New York head-on.

Furman was trapped in his car and sustained life-threatening serious injuries while several other people in both vehicles were taken to hospitals with what appeared to be minor injuries.

Investigators say they are still looking into the cause of the crash but say high speed and alcohol consumption are believed to be significant factors.

Charges are pending.
