A motorcyclist was hurt when the bike he was operating struck a ladder in the middle of Interstate 81 in northern Broome County.

Authorities say 65-year-old Bruce Drake of Greene was traveling north on the highway when the crash occurred around 8 a.m. Monday.

Conditions were foggy when the collision happened just north of the Whitney Point exit, a short distance from the Cortland County line.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, Drake was thrown from the 2005 Yamaha motorcycle. He was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment of what appeared to be minor injuries.

Investigators say Drake was wearing a safety helmet at the time of the crash.

The motorcycle sustained damage to the handlebars and gas tank. It was towed from the scene.
