New York’s ban on open burning goes into effect next week but Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania has already prohibited burning to try to avoid brush fires.

Meanwhile, firefighters in Bradford County put out three separate brush fires March 8.

Blazes were reported around mid-day in Leroy Township, Wysox and Sheshequin.

Officials have said due to a lack of snow this winter, twigs, leaves and grass have not been saturated with enough moisture to help knock down the brush fire danger.

Every spring for the past several years, New York has issued a burn ban from March 15 through May 15, prohibiting open burning as dry conditions and wind combine to make for high brush fire risks.
