While plans are underway to open a substance abuse treatment facility at the Broome Developmental Center in the Town of Dickinson, the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services is announcing the Voices Recovery and Community Outreach Center at the former Saint Ann’s Convent on Prospect Street is supporting people in recovery.

The center is operated by Fairview Recovery Services and has been granted $1.75 million from OASAS.

Meanwhile, a Town Hall meeting is planned for October 26 to talk about the plans for the Broome Developmental Center.

The meeting is being held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Chenango Valley High School and is hosted by New York State Senator Fred Akshar and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo.

The Senator’s office says officials from the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, Syracuse Behavioral Health, Broome County Department of Social Services and the Broome County Health Department will be available to answer questions.

People who can’t attend can submit questions online and more information is available at www.nysenate.gov/senators/fred-akshar .  Residents can also call the Senator’s office at (607) 773-8771.
